Denim Redo

Although I like denim and I love to make patchwork, I don’t think I like to make this top. It looks boxy and is not flattering at all. In my opinion it looks like a clown.

Actually the main purpose of this top is to recycle of your old denim, but making it into a top is totally a mistake. I think this idea is good to apply on bag or tote.

Lace Needle

Finally, I got the opportunity to use this needle to make lace. Now, I really like it. The pointy needle is very good to make all the manuver of k2tog or k3tog, and the brass finishing makes it not really slippery, which is very good. Because when you make lace project you don't want to drop any stitches.

White Crochet Cardigan

I made this using white acrylic thread. I think I used about 3 x 100 balls only. Actually I don’t really like to crochet using acrylic thread, especially for a top. Wearing something made of acrylic always makes me itchy.

I used Japanese pattern in old edition of Lets Knit Series. The pattern is very easy to follow, but they only have 1 size, so you have to adjust your needle size in order to get to the size that you want.

Handmade is Expensive

Did you see the price on this picture? $1,390 for the crocheted white bag, $775 for the brown bag, $260 for scarf and $140 for hat. I think this is about the right price for handmade item. If I have to sell my handmade things, I will also put that kind of price considering how much time, efforts and energy I have put into them. That is why I have never tried to sell my handmade items because I know that nobody will buy it. Not everybody knows how to appreciate handmade. Normally the one that can appreciate handmade items is a person that knows how to make it, thus no need for them to buy.

Stylish Frames

If you think you can not look stylish when you have to wear prescribed eyeglasses, then you are wrong. As a matter of fact, I know a person that actually looks better with glasses. She knows is and that is why she has large selection of glasses. She even matches her glasses with her outfit. At one time, I was quite curious on how she can afford so many glasses. I even suspected that she has a side job somewhere.

Recently, I found out that you can buy prescribed eyeglasses as low as USD 8 at ZenniOptical.com. They has a wide selection of frames which come with various lenses such as single vision lenses, sunsensor (potochromic) lenses, tinted sunglass lenses, bifocal lenses and progressive lenses. The Shipping and Handling Charge is only a flat USD 4.95 per order, no matter how many glasses you place in the order. The Secret to Zenni’s Low Prices is that they only sell their own manufactured frames direct to the customer, with no middlemen and virtually no advertising budget.

I have seen some positive reports about Zenni on Fox Newx TV, and heard about them on the radio. The popular U.S. talk radio host of the nationally syndicated consumer advocate program The Clark Howard Show, also recommended them.

Blue and Green Combination

I also found this pattern in Vogue. This is simple pattern but I like the color combination and the fit. Actually I have never make a sweater using more than 1 color, but looking at this one make me want to try it. Not now though as I still have a lot of yarn and on yarn diet. I will try to look for that color combination sometimes next year, when my stash is low and there is a clearance on my favorite online yarn shop.

Colorful Sweater

What do you think of this sweater? Don't you think it looks like an afghan or blanket? To tell you the truth, I do have blanket that looks like this. I used Knit Picks Swish.

Although it looks like blanket, I still think this is pretty. Its very easy to make also, since there is no shaping. Just make 2 rectangular, attach 2 sleeves, add the edging and you are done. Perfect for winter.

My Experience Selling in Ebay

Have you tried Selling on eBay? I have, and it was not a successful try. This beaded Teddy bear is actually made by my colleague. She asked me to sell on eBay since she was not familiar with internet thing. I started the bid at USD 9.99,- I knew that the price was too expensive, but it was not for me to decide the price. Furthermore, if it did not sell at that price, I didn’t think it was worth it to sell. I don’t think eBay is the right place to sell anyway. People want to buy cheap thing there and selling hand made items are definitely not a good idea.

I also tried to sell knitting pattern once. It was not successful also, although when I tried to sell it somewhere else, it sold within a day.

The thing that I don’t like about eBay is that they have very expensive listing fee. If I manage to sell it that is fine, but if not then I have to make a lost.

Recently I heard about iSold It on eBay, where you can just drop the thing that you want to sell, and they will do the work from taking the photo, listing and shipping it for you.

Crocheted Crunchy

This is another idea where simple crocheted crunchy can look elegant and expensive by adding beads. This is excellent to use up your left over yarn. If you made a sweater and have a bit of left over, you can use it up to make crunchy so you have a matching accessories to go with your hand knit or crochet sweater.

Spend Your Money Wisely on Glasses

Some people have to wear prescribed glasses. We know that sometimes prescribed glasses can be expensive. In this current tight economy, we must spend our money wisely. There are so many online eyeglasses company that offers prescribed glasses very cheap and low price is not necessarily equal low quality. One of the examples is www.AffordableVision.com. This online company guarantees quality that equals any doctor"s office or optical clinic in a traditional "brick and mortar" retail location. As a matter of fact they still do lab work and supply eyeglass frames for many doctors across the nation. Furthermore, since they are an American company, when you make a purchase with them you support American jobs.

Crocheted Glass Cover

If you like to work with tread to make doilies, but no place to display your work since all your table already covered with doilies, I give you new idea.

This is a small project. Basically you can use any doily patterns that you have and just make fewer rounds. You can use white thread or colorful thread like the photo.

If you make a dozen of this, you can give it as a christmas gift as well.

I Need 20/20 Vision

Besides knitting and crocheting, other handicrafts that I like are sewing, quilting and embroidery. When I am knitting or crocheting, I don’t really look at my work. I can knit or crochet while I watch TV. On the other hand, sewing, quilting and specially embroidery, really takes a toll on my eyes.

Lately, I find it almost impossible to thread a needle. I believe these are symptoms of Presbyopia, the clinical name for the condition where the eyes lose their ability to focus which begins for those whose age are forty and older.

I hate to wear glasses or contact lenses. My friend suggested that I have Lasik Surgery, since she did it last year and she is happy with the result. At first I am a bit skeptical, but after I did some research and I found at LASIK information that over 12 million Americans have benefited from LASIK. Even NASA and the U.S. military increase the performance of mission-critical personnel using laser vision correction technologies.

Modern LASIK technology, known as the iLASIK™ Procedure, uses two lasers instead of one. In the first stage of iLASIK, wave-front technology maps the unique characteristics of the individual’s eyes. Then, an ultrafast, computer-guided laser creates a corneal flap. This laser replaces the handheld microkeratome blade used in older forms of LASIK and makes the procedure exceptionally safe. After the flap is created, the wave-front mapping data guides a second laser for vision correction. The combination of these advanced laser technologies creates a custom-fit procedure clinically proven to provide excellent safety and visual results.

Although the surgery cost is higher than glasses or contact lenses but I think Lasik is worth it.

Stylish Sweater

I found this pattern in VogueKnitting Magazine. Isn't this lovely? Actually I don’t really like sweaters with cables. All the sweaters with cable that I saw so far are very thick, boxy and not stylish at all. But this one is definitely a winner. Someday I will make something like this.

After looking at the photo again, I think the sweater itself is quite basic. It is the belt that makes it look stylish. Probably I need to buy a similar belt. Anybody get any ideas where to buy this type of belt?

Addiction

Have you ever woken up in the morning and suddenly had an obsession to make something. I have that kind of feeling all the time. Like this week, I had the urge to knit a sweater. Although I had another project which I haven’t finish, I simply had to on a new project to make a sweater.

Alcoholism is also a mental obsession that causes a physical compulsion to drink. Of course obsession with alcohol is much more dangerous than my crafty obsession, but it is the same urging feeling.

If you know somebody that has problems with alcoholism or drug addiction and he/she is in the Malibu or West LA area, you can refer him/her to Promises rehab center.

Crocheted Piano

Look at the photo, and hold your breath! Isn’t it amazing? I cannot imagine how long it took to make this. This is a work of art!

One thing for sure, if I have a piano at home, I don’t think I want to convert it into this. Not only do I not have the time and patients to do it, but I imagine it will be very difficult to keep it clean.

Need Extra Money?

I started to learn how to crochet when I was 4 years old and since then I have made a considerable amount of crocheted items. Some people have suggested to me to sell my handmade items. The problem is if I have to price my handmade items, it will be too expensive. A lot of people always think that handmade items are cheap since we make it and don’t use any sophisticated machines to make it. They forget that we put hours of work into it. For me, I would rather do some “Get Paid to Click” work than sell my handmade items to earn some extra money.

If you are interested to earn some extra money, you can join EarnEasyCash - Paid to Click. You can earn money by signing up for free offers, clicking ads, and reading emails.

Four Top Reason To Sign Up:

Cute Top

Every woman needs some basic clothes in her wardrobe that can match any occasion, looks casual and yet can be worn for formal occasion with some fashionable accessories. That is why I am planning to make this to complete my wardrobe. I am planning to use white material because I think it will look good with a skirt or a pair slacks or even with a pair of jeans.

I am a bit hesitant to add the ruffles on the sleeves. I know that ruffles on the sleeve is the fashionable trend now, but I am afraid that it won’t last long. When I make something, I want it to last forever. What do you think?

Basket of Pumpkins

Halloween is almost here. Have you decorated your house to celebrate the occasion? Sometimes, just a simple decoration is enough to get you into the festive mood. Make these Crocheted Pumpkins, put them in the basket and place them in the corner of your living room, it will guarantee a conversational piece.

If you don't want to display the pumpkins in a basket, they would look just as decoratively displayed in a creative arrangement of dried corn husks, Indian corn, colorful fall leaves, nuts, berries or whatever you like.

Miniature Bear Contest

Below are the winners of "Thread Teds Challenge" miniature bear contest. The contest's originator, Berta Hesen-Minten, who is known worldwide for her incredible miniature crocheted bear designs, reports that the Challenge was once again a huge success.

My favorite is actually the one that got the third place, but I just look from the photo. Sometimes what you see on photo looks different from real life.

First Place Gold Hook Award by Chantal Emilia Giroux

Second Place Silver Hook Award by Monika Skeryte-Kazlauskiene
Third Place Copper Hook Award by Anita Schaeder
Public Choice Purple Hook Award by Marge Wiese

Swatch

Before you make a sweater, do you swatch? For me it depends. If the project is a totally new project and the yarn that I am going to use is totally new to me, I will certainly make a swatch. I will normally not make a big swatch, just about 20 sts and 20 rows are enough. Then I will wash the swatch to see how it reacts after washing.

However, if I have made the pattern before or have done something similar, or I am familiar with the yarn, then I won't make a swatch and just start the project!

Advertise Online

Do you own a business or are thinking about starting one? Well, the one thing that every business owner needs to know is that in order to survive, you need customers who are willing to pay for your products or services. The only way to drive customers to your business is to advertise. Without advertisement, even if you have a very good product, nobody will know about it and nobody will buy it.

Some people even say that with good advertising, you can sell ice in the North Pole or sand in the dessert.

Nowadays, more and more people are using internet to do their shopping. It’s fast and convenient. You don’t even have to leave your home to do some shopping. When I am looking for something, the first thing I do is to search for it on the internet to see where I can buy it. Thus, if you are not advertising your business on the internet, you are loosing out, big time.

Now the question is how do you advertise on the internet? There are so many ways to advertise but not all methods are effective. If you have a small business with a small budget then probably you should look at AdPropel.

AdPropel is an online advertising firm located in the Sacramento Valley. They were founded in 2007 by small business owners who intimately know the difficulties of creating and managing Internet advertising campaigns. They blended their advertising and technology experience to create a great product to empower you to succeed in the new world of Internet advertising.

Why Choose AdPropel?
1. More people buy and research online than ever before, you can reach them with AdPropel.
2. Keep your budget under control, set monthly maximums and only pay for performance.
3. AdPropel's service is easy to learn and straight forward so you can get back to business.
4. In AdPropel you can even create your first online advertising campaign in a matter of minutes. It's easy, and there's no sign up required!

Patchwork

Besides knitting and crocheting, I also like to do some patchwork. So far I have only made 1 patchwork blanket. Yesterday I saw someone in Ravelry, who made a crocheted blanket that looks like patchwork. I love the idea and I want to try it someday.

My Favorite Designer

One of my favorite knitting designers is Kim Hargreaves. She used to be one of designer in Rowan Knitting Magazine.

Kim in the end decided to left Rowan after 20 years become a key performer in that magazine. After she left a lot of the reader think that the magazine is not as good as it used to be.

That complain is without no reason, since Kim had managed the Rowan brand; creating hundreds of individual designs; selecting new yarn colors; master-minding the fashion stories for the magazines and styling the photographs that would inspire so many people to knit with style.

Now she has opened her own business, she is selling the knitting kit, the pattern plus the yarn. The picture on the side is one of the sample of her kit. Recently she also published her own books.

I think her designs have a timeless, elegant, and sophisticated look that very rarely can be found in other designer.

Perfect Eyes

I think I need lasik eye surgery. I know it's expensive, but just imagine having 20/20 vision. I strain my eyes quite often when I do some craft, that is why my eyes is not as perfect as it used to be. My friend has already done it, and she is happy with the result. She has more confident and doesn’t have to go through all the hassle of wearing contact lens anymore.

Designer Wannabe

I always wanted to be a knitting or crocheter designer. I thought it's a good opportunity to be able to sell knitting or crochet pattern online. Just think that you only have to design a pattern one time, and you can sell your design forever online. Don't you think it's a good idea?

Knitting On The Car

I always get car sick whenever I try to knit while I am in a moving car, so most of the time I just sit on the passenger seat without doing anything. What a waste of time.

I know some people can knit while they are travelling in a car. What I mean is as a passenger and not while they are driving. Knitting while driving can cause you to have a car accident, so don’t try it! LOL!

Speaking about accident, if you need to find an auto body shop to fix your car you can find it online. You can even see ratings, reviews and get estimates over the web, such as auto body downey here.

I Lost My Hook

So after several days, I finally managed to finish 1 square (sigh!). I wanted to cut the thread but could not find my scissors. So, I put down my hook and got up to get a scissors from my desk. After cutting the thread, I was ready to start another square only to realize that I lost my hook. I looked everywhere and yet the hook seemed to disappear into thin air. Since I didn’t have another spare hook of that size, it seemed to me that I had to buy another one if I wanted to finish the blanket. However, when I was about to sleep, I checked my pocket one more time, and guess what? I found it! I found it very weird that I found my hook in my pocket because actually that was the first place I checked when I realized that I lost my hook and throughout the day I checked it many times. It was as though “somebody” borrowed my hook and put it back into my pocket. Spooky!

Lifetime Decision

When I was expecting my first daughter, I have never heard about cord blood banking. I only knew about it much later on. When I was expecting my second daughter, I was seriously considering to preserve my baby’s cord blood because I know that the stem cells collected from cord blood can be used to treat 70 diseases, including leukemia, anemia, lymphoma, diabetes and cerebral palsy. However, after further consideration, we realized that our financial condition really could not permit us to do it. I am really disappointed that we missed such a great opportunity to preserve our baby cord blood. I wished that the price to store cord blood was not that expensive so it is more affordable for more parents.

Only recently I learned that Cryo-Cell offers affordable pricing/financing plans and options. They help families make the best decisions that that fit their needs and budget. In fact, parents who have ever stored cord blood stem cells with ANY bank (private or public), qualify for Cryo-Cell’s Returning Client pricing.

I am really interested in one of their current offers, UCord 21-Year Storage Plan for only USD3,495 which includes enrollment, U-Cord collection kit, processing and testing, outbound kit shipping and return medical courier service (U.S. and Puerto Rico only), and 21 years of pre-paid storage.

Probably next kid :)

Crochet for Grandma?

Who said that only grandma wears crocheted wearables? It's an in thing right now to wear crocheted wearable. Even stars also wear them nowadays. Look a this picture on the left. Don't they look fabolous wearing crocheted wearables? I bet it cost very expensive, because as far as I know, there is no machine in the world that can crochet. It's handmade!

Hand Made Halloween Costume?

So it's the time to find a perfect Halloween costume. I am wondering whether there is anybody who makes their own crocheted or knitted Halloween costume.

Although I think by making your own costume, you can have a one of a kind costume and guaranteed that nobody else will be wearing the same costume in the party, but it is also a difficult task to do as it will take a lot of time to make the costume.

As for me, I prefer to buy my Halloween Costumes online. It’s more practical and the price is also not too expensive. I don’t think I want to waste my efforts to make something that I only wear once in a year.

Crocheted Pumpkin Bookmark

The Halloween season is already knocking on the door. If you plan to have a in-house Halloween party for your children so that they can celebrate the holiday in a safer, friendlier environment, probably you can make several of this crocheted Pumpkin Bookmark as a party favor. It’s easy to make and it will encourage your children to read.

GPS Tracking Kid

I always teach my eldest daughter to stay close to me whenever we go for shopping. Normally, I always hold her hand, but sometimes I need both my hands to pick something up or to choose something. The problem with small children is that when they see something interesting, they tend to forget about what their parents told them.

When my eldest daughter was about 2 years old, we went to the Mall, and in a second, suddenly I realized that I didn’t see her by my side. I panicked and quickly called her name. Luckily, another shopper around there quickly told me that my daughter was just behind the display counter.

I think it’s a good idea for parents to place a GPS Tracking inside their child’s backpack or pocket. It will allow us to verify and monitor our child's location in case they wander off by themselves.

Another Project on My Long List

With so many projects that I want to do, I am starting to think that 24 hours a day is not enough for me. I need more time than 24 hours a day. I also started to think that sleeping is such a waste of time. We need to sleep at least 6 hours in that 24 hours period. It means one quarter of our life is use up just for sleeping. I just wish that I can knit or crochet while I am sleeping. I can knit or crochet while watching TV, I have read that some people can even knit while they are reading, why can’t we sleep and knit at the same time?

Pets

I don't have any dogs, and I actually don't understand why people like to have one. My husband on the other hand has always had dogs, since he was a small boy. He told me that having a pet is good as it will teach children to develop responsibilities from a tender age. Not only that, pets also bring more happiness into people's lives.

According to a survey, owning a dog came up tops in the happiness index, with 81% of the 2000 people surveyed stating that their happiness "significantly improved" upon getting a dog. I guess the saying "Happiness is Pets" is quite true.

What Is On My Hook?

At this moment I am making a crocheted top using thread. Some people don’t like to crochet using thread because it takes a long time to complete the crochet design. I do agree that if thread is used in a crochet design, it will take a long time to complete the design however, you will always get nice results by using thread as the results will not be too bulky. If you are using yarn to crochet, normally it will result in a much thicker finished product and it when you wear it, it might make you look fatter than you really are.

Anyway, when I finish my top, I will show the results here.

Elann

Have you ever heard of Elann before? It's a discounted yarn online shop based in Canada. I found out about the shop only recently and am now having a good time browsing through the online shop. They have a good selection of yarns with very reasonable (read: cheap) prices. To tell you the truth, I have a lot of yarn at home now and I don't think I will able to finish it by next year or the year after next. However, after looking at Elann’s collection I am tempted to buy some more yarn.

Fiore Bag

I found another nice designer crocheted bag. The name is even similar like mine. I love the flowers details. I guess that is why they name it Fiore. Because Fiore in italian means flower.

Nice Handbag

Have you ever seen a women carry a crocheted handbag? Probably you have if you are into this handycraft thing. But, if you are not probably you haven't seen it. I notice that crochet is become a trend now. I saw a lot of crocheted handbag in stores. I even notice that some of the famous designer also carry crocheted handbag in their stores.
